CELEBRATING AFRICAN HERITAGE, UNITY AND VALUES
What the Kinara Represents
Kwanzaa honors seven core principles called the Nguzo Saba. Each principle underscores values essential for community-building and personal growth.
The seven priciples include: Umoja (Unity), Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), Nia (Purpose), Kuumba (Creativity), and Imani (Faith).
Families and communities come together to light the Kinara, a symbolic candleholder, and share in storytelling, music, dance, and feasting. Kwanzaa, a tribute to resilience and shared identity, fosters connections, bridges generations, and reminds us of the beauty in our collective diversity.
